Tibetan Buddhism is one of the various branches that grew from the teachings of the original students of the Buddha. Theravada is prominent in Sri Lanka, Thailand and Burma. Other variants based on the teachings of the Buddha spread throughout Japan, China, Vietnam and Korea, and gave birth to Zen Buddhism.
