Over the Cliff

The churches were an essential part of the movement. It took over seventy years of a growing vilification of Jews to become a holocaust. Hitler didn't start it. He saw a mass hysteria and stepped to the forefront so that he could lead, swept along by its power. The militias of the Crystal Night were not condemned because they did what the populace wanted. The Germans were not special, for the power of the purge beckons every society at times.


The mass killing did not begin as a plan, but became a necessary solution to disease ridden camps. There was too little money and there were too many problems without solutions. Finally there was a fuel shortage, not enough to continually fire the cremation ovens. So in Buchenwald new ovens were designed that could use the bodies as fuel, as long as the fire was never allowed to go out.


Anyone who thinks it can't happen again, that it can't happen here, that it can't happen now, is a fool. Find a group, vilify them, mark them, cheer the militias who attack them, imprison them, and then mercifully put an end to their suffering. It is all so righteous. How many of the righteous are already swept up in the movement? Who will dare to stop it?


No, we're not over the cliff yet, you may say. But the herd is in motion, and the direction is as clear now as it was then.
